Omega 3 Fatty Acids and Brain Health

Further evidence that omega 3 fatty acids are crucial for the health of the brain with a Swedish study published in the Journal Of Internal Medicine demonstrating that supplementation of omega-3 fatty acids does indeed cross the blood brain barrier to reduce the inflammation involved in Alzheimer s disease. Alzheimer’s patients are a group who had previously demonstrated lower levels of a key omega-3, docosahexanoic acid (DHA), in the cerebrospinal fluid and supplementation increased these levels. This further compounds the reputation¬† of omega-3 supplements, particularly those with higher amounts of DHA, to treat other brain related conditions such as anxiety, depression, ADHD and autism.
